Why Should I Volunteer?
Volunteers remain the cornerstone of the Hawaii Academy of Science and are absolutely essential to its on-going success. There are several ways to get involved:
Pre-fair Volunteer Positions
Safety Review Committee
Do you have a background in science and/or engineering? Interested in helping students review their projects for potentially hazardous situations? We are always looking for review committees throughout the year to help at the school, district and state levels. All of which can be done from your home computer!
Mentors
Do you have some extra time to meet with students to discuss the various phases of their project? Many of our mentors do one face-to-face contact then spend their time corresponding via email.
Science Fair Prep
Stuffing bags, making name badges, and organizing all of the finer details that support the fair so students, judges and volunteers are ready to go at the event! This typically occurs a week before the fair.
On-Site fair volunteer positions
Safety Check Inspectors
We are always looking for inspectors to assist with participant projects/check-in prior to the fairs. We will send all volunteers a training packet and access to on-line documents for overview of the inspection process. Areas include: display regulations, proper placement of items and double checking all students have everything required for judging day.
Judges
We are always recruiting judges for both our Junior Research (6th-8th grade) projects and Senior Research (9th-12th grade) projects. If you have a background in any of the 17 categories CLICK HERE for category breakdown - please contact the academy to learn more.
